Lesesozialisation ist ein langjähriger Prozess, an dem viele Instanzen beteiligt sind. Auf Grundlage des Modells der Entwicklungsphasen der Lesesozialisation wird detailliert beschrieben, welche Schritte Kinder auf einem Weg zum erfolgreichen Leser gehen und welchen Einfluss die Familie, die Schule und das soziale Umfeld auf den Schriftspracherwerb und das Lesen haben.

Im Anschluss an die Entwicklung der Lesesozialisation wird beschrieben, wie die Leseförderung in der Grundschule ablaufen kann. Dort wird besonders auf die Förderung nach der Leistungsstanderhebung PISA 2000 und auf die heutige Förderung eingegangen. Anschließend wird der Rahmenlehrplan Deutsch der Grundschule für Berlin und Brandenburg in Hinblick auf Aspekte der Leseförderung untersucht.
